Market-compatible SMT connectors with spring-elastic contacts for drop-in replacement at critical mechanical PCB interfaces
Pforzheim/Germany – 5 March 2025 – Provertha is expanding its SMT solution portfolio for PCB connection with the Slimline M8 connector series. The new connectors are particularly impressive thanks to their slim design, robust spring-elastic contact design and compatibility with the circular connectors of other leading manufacturers on the market. The Slimline connectors for PCB mounting are available in two versions: unshielded or shielded with a one-piece shield clip in SMT connection technology (Surface Mounting Technology). Provertha provides customers with a reliable, compatible solution that is perfectly tailored to their applications – just completely “Fitting your Application”.
30% more resistance to high stress
Thanks to the spring-elastic contacts and an enlarged soldering surface connection to the contacts, Provertha Slimline connectors achieve at least 30% more resistance to the SMT connections breaking off under high mechanical stress compared to standard M8 SMT connectors on the market. Their standard market-based footprint makes them compatible with the most commonly used SMT circular connectors available on the market, and they can easily be used as an alternative without changes to the PCB layout design.
The M8 Slimline products can be used flexibly thanks to selectable codings (A-3, A-4, and D) – for example for sensor-actuator applications in industrial automation, for industrial Ethernet networks, and in miniaturised applications that are exposed to high stress.
Designed for high functional reliability and high current carrying capacity
The Slimline female versions have a special contact design for high functional reliability under mechanical loads and are available with an overall height of 17 mm. The small design makes the Slimline connectors ideal for applications with very limited installation space. Another component for miniaturisation is the special design for close arrangement of the new tamper-proof M8 installation housing, which enables either push-pull or screw locking.
The Slimline connectors with IP67 protection class have very good technical characteristics, e.g. a wide temperature range from -40 °C to +125 °C and a high current carrying capacity. The new Provertha connectors are made of high-temperature-resistant high-performance thermoplastic with high tracking resistance. The so-called Comparative Tracking Index (CTI value) – a measure of the tracking resistance of plastics – is over 600.
Designed for automated processing
All M8 SMT Slimline connectors are designed for reliable processability in the fully automated SMT process thanks to the high-temperature-resistant pick-and-place suction pads and tape-and-reel packaging. Narrow tapes allow the connectors to be accommodated on the feeder bank of the placement machine and take up minimal space.
Ideal addition to the plug connector portfolio for printed circuit boards
The new PCB connector solutions in M8 format complete the high-performance M12 SMT connectors of the ruggedized series and the functionally reliable, market-compatible M12 SMT slimline series, as well as the high-performance D-Sub connectors for PCB applications (TMC products). They can be quickly and specifically adapted as part of the Provertha modular system.
